The Place of Rehabilitation of the Offender Among The Purposes of Penalties According To International Law

The purpose of the contribution is to identify the relevant international rules on the topic of the objectives of criminal punishment. As international law dwells more and more on issues of criminal jurisdiction, choices made at the municipal level often must take into account international rules. The contribution is conceived as a road map through the international obligations on the subject. Even at a preliminary point of investigation, it is clear not only that social rehabilitation is an aim, which various international conventional norms prescribe to the States party to the different instruments, but also that it is gaining more and more attention by treaty bodies, with the result of acquiring some distinctive features.
